The three South Worcestershire Councils (Malvern District Council, Worcester City Council and Wychavon District Council) appointed Enfusion Ltd to undertake an Integrated Appraisal of the South Worcestershire Joint Core Strategy documenting the statutory process of Sustainability Appraisal and Strategic Environmental Assessment.
Sustainability Appraisal (SA) assists in promoting a sustainable approach to development through an ongoing dialogue and assessment process during the preparation of Development Planning documents, whilst Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) specifically considers the potential impacts of planning proposals on the environment and is a requirement of European legislation.
In England the SA and SEA processes are dealt with in an integrated manner affording environmental, social and economic issues the same level of detail in the appraisal process.
