Get out of the classroom and learn about spatial planning

sixth form students assessing nunnery area

This online teaching and learning resource is designed to assist the delivery of year 11-19 curriculum. In particular the teaching of Sustainable Development and Community Planning within the Geography and Citizenship syllabus. It specifically focusses on the use of IT, multimedia and Geographical Information Systems to enhance an interactive learning experience for use in both the classroom and in the field.

1. The material focuses on the decision making and community involvement in the statutory planning system and process in England. This is central to the delivery of homes, jobs, shops and leisure opportunities, as well as working to maintain the quality of our built and natural environment.

2. Achieving development in a sustainable manner is seen as being at the heart of all planning decisions. Through identifying real examples, locally, this pack allows for links to be made in the classroom environment to recent and current case studies. This permits students to explore the range of processes and decisions that effect the way places change and how the community and other service providers influence this process.

3. If you would like a pack for use in your school or college or you would like more information about it please ask to speak to Andy Ford, Senior Planner at Wychavon District Council (01386 565362), or Wendy Corbett, Multimedia Officer (01905 722233). Or email contact@swjcs.org
