Strategic Housing Land
Availability Assessment Report
2nd Edition
Jointly produced by Malvern Hills District Council, WorcesterCity Council and Wychavon District Council, January 2010
The South Worcestershire Joint Core Strategy Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment (SHLAA) is a joint report produced by officers from the three South Worcestershire local authorities of Malvern Hills District Council, Worcester City Council and Wychavon District Council. This is the second full edition (further to the June 2008 edition) to be produced and as the SHLAA is a continuous process it will be updated on a regular basis. The SHLAA report provides background evidence on the potential supply of housing land in South Worcestershire. It is a technical report and is not a decision making document, and does not allocate land for housing. It will however contribute to the South Worcestershire Joint Core Strategy by helping to establish whether broad directions for development growth are feasible in terms of land availability, deliverability and in what potential timeframe. It will also provide background evidence for the Site Allocations and Policies Development Plan Document and assist in monitoring a 5 year housing land supply.
Please note that we are currently working on finalising the 2010 SHLAA, and therefore maps are being uploaded in the order of the Site Allocations and Policies Development Plan Document village consultations.
The village categorisation reflects the changes in the 2009 Village Facilities and Rural Transport Survey, and therefore some villages that have changed categories have not been assessed at a panel and will not have an accompanying panel sheet to the map. The three local authorities have conducted a series of developer panels to assess the sites in more detail and these have been extended to examine the new sites that have been submitted during 2009. Previous to this, developer panels were conducted during October 2007 and January 2008.
Villages that have moved into Category 1 or 2 and have not already been assessed at a panel will be assessed and the results published in the Summer 2010 edition of the SHLAA, which will coincide with the Site Allocations and Policies Development Plan Document Preferred Options consultation.

Please note that each map shows all of the sites that have been identified in or adjacent the stated settlement, the detailed panel results behind each map only provide the results for the sites that went through the panel process. Therefore, in some cases, the number of sites identified on the maps does not match the number of sites considered through the panel process. Some sites will have already been ruled out at an earlier stage, for example for sites designated as open space (PPG17), where there has been duplication or there is a flood risk.
