South Worcestershire Joint Core Strategy
Evidence Base – Retail Studies
These studies have been prepared by DPDS Consulting and have informed the proposed Preferred Options, in particular the spatial strategies for Worcester and the main towns as well as Core Strategy Policy CS19 “ Shopping and Leisure”. The studies set out the following: retail expenditure capacity for each centre; shopping patterns and trends; current shopping facilities and retail health checks; opportunities for retail and leisure development; recommended retail strategy.
In summary, with regard to additional convenience goods e.g. food, the floor space require is low with no overriding need for new stores in the study area. With regard to comparison goods e.g. clothes, electricals etc there will be a need for new floor space which can all be accommodated within the retail centres as set out in the Preferred Options Paper.
